'SOVT' is an album containing one 55-minute piece, written for piano by Sarah Hennies in 2017. SOVT stands for Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract.
All the strings of the piano in this piece are muted with Blu-Tack poster putty, giving the whole piece a unique hybrid sound of piano and percussion. Also, by connecting all the strings with putty, it creates various different kinds of sympathetic resonances which are quite different from traditional piano sounds. The piece was realized by pianist richard valitutto and recorded by Hennies at the Bard College studio in the spring of 2024. |
